Avoid Stranger Danger, Even on a Blind Date

Whether you met through a mutual friend, on a popular dating app, or at a party - they are still a stranger to you. Here are some strategies to staying safe while living it up and letting loose.

Meet in a public place.

Your first date should always be in a public place. Whether it's a coffee shop, restaurant, or bar, pick a spot where there are people around. And don't go to secluded areas. This includes someone's car.

Tell your friends and family.

Don't be shy - tell people you're going out on a date. Whether it's your mom, best friend, brother, or all three - someone should always be in the know. Give them the details: where, what, when and with who. I also recommend using a GPS tracking device like Invisawear.

Be your own Secret Service Agent.

Do a quick search on the person before your date. You can do this via the Internet or social media sites. You'd be amazed how easy it is to find people online. You can also try the app Been Verified for a quick background check.

Transport yourself.

Meet them there - not in your home or in front of it. And, if you don't want to drive, take an Uber, Lyft or taxi. Find your own way there and your own way back. You want to protect where you live - especially with people you've just met.

Stay away from the booze.

If you can do it - try not to drink on your first date so you can have all your wits about you. But, if you're nervous and really need some liquid courage, make sure to order your own drink and to keep it in sight at ALL TIMES.
